 △ 예천 금당실 송림(천연기념물 제469호)

 

-예천 금당실 송림은 천재나 전쟁에도 마음 놓고 살수 있다는 땅을 일컫는 십승지지의 한군데로 알려져 있는 예천 용문면 금당실 마을의 수해방지와 바람막이를 위하여 조성된 송림이다.

금당실 서북쪽에 위치하는 숲으로 오미봉 밑에서부터 용문초등학교 앞까지 약 800m에 걸쳐 소나무 수백그루가 울창하게 조성되어 있어 아름다운 경관을 이루고 있으며, 주변에 학교, 농경지 및 민가와 인접되어 있다.

금당실 송림은 상금곡동이 낙동강 지류인 복천, 용문사 계곡, 청룡사 계곡으로 흐르는 계류가 만나는 삼각주를 형성하고 있어 해마다 여름철 하천물이 범람하므로 수해방비와 겨울철 북서한풍을 막기 위하여 마을 주민들이 조성하였으나, 1863년 동학을 전파하던 최제우가 체포되어 처형되는 과정에서 민심이 동요되어 큰 나무들이 일부 벌채되고 1894년 동학혁명 당시 노비구출 비용 마련을 위한 나무 벌채가 심하여 1895년(고종 32년) 법무대신이던 이유인이 금당실에 95칸의 집을 짓고 거주하면서 이 숲을 보호하여 왔다고 한다
